The country’s largest School Health & Nutrition Program has been launched to screen school children and access their health and nutrition status for a healthy future. The “Chief Minister's School Health and Nutrition Program” has been launched by Punjab Health Minister under special directives from the Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar.
Under this program, in the first phase, health and nutrition status of more than 50,000 public school children across the province will be examined. Children requiring further screenings will be provided diagnosis and treatment through the Mobile Health Units and Govt facilities.
About 1720 School Health and Nutrition supervisors have been given exclusive responsibility of screening children. The School Health Nutrition Supervisor will conduct a thorough medical examination of children and assess their physical and nutrition status. They will carry out screening of students for Eye, ENT, Dental, Skin and General Physical problems. Children requiring treatment will be provided diagnosis and treatment facilities at the Mobile Health Units. In case the student needs any specialized treatment, medical officer refer him to the concerned specialty available at the nearest hospital i.e. RHC, THQ, DHQ and Tertiary Care Hospital.
A database of these children will be developed and their growth will be continuously monitored. In the next phase, the medical checkup will be provided to students of private schools whereas in the third phase proper nutrition arrangements will be made for the students. In addition to that, the records of all the children will
